Trailer Drivers to Protest from Jan 20 Over Pending Demands in Jamshedpur

Local Trailer Owners’ Union Plans Strike From January 20

Key Points:

  • Drivers demand salary hikes and improved facilities.
  • Union includes loading trips and wages in demands.
  • Strike announced after Sunday’s meeting in Bistupur.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Local Trailer Owners’ Union has declared a strike starting January 20 to address drivers’ long-standing demands. A meeting held at the Burmamines parking gate on Sunday brought together drivers and union representatives to discuss grievances.

Union President Jaykishore Singh emphasized that their demands include better pay, monthly trip guarantees, and improved facilities. The union has raised these issues before, but drivers’ concerns have now been incorporated into the agenda.

Drivers Voice Their Grievances

During the meeting, drivers highlighted key issues, including insufficient trips and inadequate wages. One driver stated, “We need at least ten trips per month to sustain our families.” Other concerns included poor restroom facilities and the lack of food arrangements within company premises.

Jaykishore Singh added, “We have been demanding a rate hike for a long time. Now, driver issues are also part of our demands.”

Planned Strike and Unified Support

The strike will see both drivers and vehicle owners participating. The union believes that only collective action will compel companies to address the demands. A detailed plan for the protest will be announced closer to the date.
