JAMSHEDPUR – Members of the Jamshedpur Press Club, led by President Sanjeev Bhardwaj, submitted a memorandum to the East Singhbhum district administration on Wednesday. The delegation sought a fair investigation into the murder of journalist Mukesh Chandraakar in Chhattisgarh and stringent punishment for the culprits.

The memorandum, addressed to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, was handed to ADM (Law and Order) Aniket Sachan in the absence of the Deputy Commissioner. The delegation urged the state government to ensure justice for the journalist and implement measures for the safety of media professionals.

Demand for Journalist Protection in Jharkhand

The delegation also presented a demand letter to the Jharkhand Chief Minister, condemning the recent assault on journalists in Giridih during coverage of illegal toll tax collection. They emphasized the need for immediate action against perpetrators and called for the enactment of a journalist protection law.

Focus on Economic and Social Security

Press Club representatives highlighted the necessity for economic and social security for journalists and their families. Suggestions included mandatory insurance schemes, pensions, and special financial packages to assist families in cases of injury or death during duty.

Delegation Members Speak Out

Former President B. Srinivas, General Secretary Vikas Srivastava, and other prominent members including Shyam Jha, Ved Prakash Gupta, and Nikhil Sinha expressed solidarity with affected journalists. “Ensuring the safety and dignity of media professionals is essential for democracy,” stated Vikas Srivastava.

The delegation’s appeal reinforced the urgent need for safeguards and legal reforms to protect journalists and uphold press freedom.
