MEDININAGAR – Gunmen attacked workers at a toll plaza site near Jorkat village on Tuesday evening, leaving one worker injured. The incident, occurring around 4:30 PM, has raised concerns about safety in the area.
Worker Injured During Construction Work
The injured worker, Manish Bhuiyan, hails from Purnadih in the Satbarwa region. He was rushed to Medinirai Medical College Hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg. Workers were engaged in construction at the NH 75 toll plaza, managed by Bharat Vaanijya Stake Pvt. Ltd., when the assailants arrived.
Gunmen Create Chaos, Police Investigate Extortion Links
Two assailants on a motorcycle fired indiscriminately, shattering the glass of a nearby JCB machine. Witnesses reported that the attackers demanded to know who was overseeing the construction. After firing seven rounds, they fled towards Medininagar. Sadar SDPO Manibhushan Prasad stated, “We are examining all angles, with initial findings pointing to extortion as the motive.”
Police Efforts to Uncover Culprits
Local police, led by Station Officer Uttam Kumar, arrived promptly to gather details. Officials suspect the involvement of criminal gangs and are working to identify the perpetrators and their intentions.
