KHARSAWAN – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren pledged to identify and honor the martyrs and activists of the historic Kharsawan massacre, which marked its 77th anniversary. Speaking to journalists after paying homage at the Kharsawan memorial, CM Soren emphasized his government’s commitment to recognizing those who sacrificed their lives.
Commitment to Justice and Recognition
The Chief Minister highlighted similar initiatives undertaken for the Gua massacre victims, where dependents of martyrs were identified and given appointment letters. “We will find the families of Kharsawan martyrs and honor them appropriately,” Soren assured.
Honoring Tribal History and Legacy
Soren described the Kharsawan memorial as a historical site that symbolizes the struggle and resilience of Jharkhand’s tribal communities. “This sacred place reminds us of our ancestors’ fight for water, forest, and land. Their awareness and connection with nature were unparalleled, even before the idea of freedom took shape,” he stated while extending New Year wishes to the tribal and native communities.

Several prominent leaders joined the Chief Minister in paying tribute, including Kharsawan MLA Dashrath Gagrai, Gandey MLA Kalpana Soren, Singhbhum MP Joba Majhi, Transport Minister Deepak Birua, Chakradharpur MLA Sukhram Oraon, and JMM leaders like Laxman Tudu and Ganesh Mahli.
