Police Recover Car, Axe, and Mobile in Connection to the Crime

Key Points:

  • Decapitated bodies of a couple discovered on December 20 and 22
  • Police arrest three suspects; motive linked to financial disputes
  • Accused had past connections with one victim through prison acquaintance

CHAIBASA – West Singhbhum police have solved the gruesome murder of a Hazaribagh couple whose decapitated bodies were discovered in separate locations. Three suspects have been arrested, and crucial evidence, including a car, axe, and mobile phone, has been recovered. The victims were identified as Nirmala Ekka and Rashmi Monika Sanmani of Hazaribagh.

Sequence of Events

On December 20, a headless male body was found in Uttutua village under Chakradharpur police station. Two days later, on December 22, a headless female body was discovered by the roadside in Achu village. These shocking discoveries created widespread fear in the region.

Investigations revealed that the couple had traveled to Chaibasa on December 17 and lost contact with their family after December 19. Police identified the bodies based on reports from the victims’ relatives.

Motive and Arrests

The police traced the murders to a financial dispute between one of the accused, Ram Rai Surin, and the deceased, Nirmal Ekka. Ram Rai, a former convict who befriended Nirmal during his prison term, alleged that Nirmal owed him ₹5.5 lakh. When Nirmal failed to repay and insisted on exchanging the debt for a damaged car, Ram Rai planned the murders.

On December 19, the couple was lured to Devavir village under the pretext of a car exchange. Ram Rai and his accomplices, Mangta Surin and Budhan Singh Sanvaya, executed the murders using an axe. The bodies were disposed of in separate locations, with attempts to hide evidence.

Investigation Efforts

The case was cracked under the supervision of Superintendent of Police and Sadar SDPO Bahaman Tuti. The arrested individuals include Ram Rai Surin and Mangta Surin from Devavir village under Sonua police station, and Budhan Singh Sanvaya from Kelende village under Jhinkpani police station.

Evidence and Confession

Ram Rai confessed to the crime, detailing his grievances over unpaid debt and the series of events leading to the murders. Police recovered the victims’ car and the weapon used, sealing the case against the accused.
