Urban Development Minister vows improvement in tax collection, services

RANCHI – Jharkhand’s Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu conducted a review meeting at the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) office on Wednesday. Senior officials and employees of the municipal corporation were present during the session.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Minister Sonu emphasized the department’s focus on revenue generation. He pointed out that Ranchi has a population of 15 lakh, yet only 2.3 lakh residents pay holding tax, whereas the number should be at least 3 lakh. “We will see qualitative improvement in tax collection within the next six months,” he assured.

Service Delivery Under Right to Service Act

Minister Sonu stated that the department will operate under the Right to Service Act to ensure timely delivery of municipal services. He promised residents would no longer face delays in street light maintenance, sewage drainage systems, road repairs, and other essential works.

He further highlighted that while the RMC’s revenue exceeds its expenses, there is still scope to enhance income. Discussions during the meeting covered the implementation of state-sponsored, centrally sponsored, and municipal projects. The minister also addressed challenges hindering the execution of ongoing schemes.

The minister’s review underscores the government’s commitment to improving urban services while boosting revenue generation for Ranchi’s growing population.
