IIW-India Hosts National Welding Seminar 2024 in Jamshedpur

Experts discuss advancements in welding, cladding, and additive manufacturing

JAMSHEDPUR – The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India), Jamshedpur branch, successfully organized the National Welding Seminar (NWS-2024) at SNTI, Jamshedpur from December 12 to 14. The theme of the seminar was “Advances in Welding, Cladding, and Additive Manufacturing.” Experts and participants from across the country, along with presenters from Belgium, Europe, and the UAE, attended the prestigious event.

The chief guest for the seminar was Prabal Ghosh, Vice President (One Shared Services) at Tata Steel Limited. The inaugural session featured the release of the NWS-2024 brochure, followed by the distribution of IIW-India awards and plenary lectures.

Key Sessions and Lectures

The first day included notable addresses such as the L.P. Mishra Memorial Lecture delivered by Dr. Renu Gupta from L&T and the Professor Placid Rodrigues Memorial Lecture presented by Dr. R.G. Rangasamy from BARC, Mumbai. Eminent speakers like Professor Amitava De from IIT Bombay, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh Chaudhary (Director, CSIR-NML), and Christopher Gregoire from Voestalpine shared insights on recent advancements in additive manufacturing, weld cladding, and repair techniques.

Throughout the seminar, 13 keynote lectures were delivered by prominent figures, including Dr. Anil Vesangi (ISRO), Professor G.G. Roy (IIT Kharagpur), Dr. T.V. Prabhu (IGCAR, Kalpakkam), and Professor Murugaiyan (IIT Madras).

Technical Presentations and Participation

In total, 108 technical research papers were presented across 4 parallel sessions, with over 300 delegates actively participating. The discussions provided valuable insights into emerging technologies and developments in welding and allied fields.

Exhibitions and Innovations

A highlight of NWS-2024 was the series of exhibitions showcasing the latest innovations in welding machines and products. More than 20 exhibitions were organized, featuring major companies like Tata Steel, L&T, ESAB, Voestalpine, Hoganas, and various startups specializing in additive manufacturing technologies.

The event marked a significant step in fostering industry-academia collaboration and promoting advancements in welding, cladding, and manufacturing technologies.
