JAMSHEDPUR – The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted a two-day Capacity Building Programme titled “Strengthening Assessment and Evaluation Practices” at DAV Public School, Bistupur, from December 11 to 12, 2024. Organized under the aegis of the Centre of Excellence (COE) Patna, the workshop aimed to enhance educators’ assessment methodologies.
The event commenced with the traditional DAV song and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Mrs. Pragya Singh, Assistant Regional Officer of DAV Public Schools, Jharkhand Zone E, and Principal of DAV Public School, Bistupur, welcomed the participants. She emphasized that modern assessment should focus on eliciting students’ learning outcomes and fostering competencies, rather than merely evaluating performance.
Emphasis on Bloom’s Taxonomy
Esteemed resource persons, Dr. Moushumi, Principal of S.S.G. English School, Adityapur, and Ms. Arpita Bakshi, TGT at Jamshedpur Public School, Baridih, highlighted the significance of integrating Bloom’s Taxonomy into question paper development. They discussed how this framework aids in creating assessments that promote higher-order thinking skills.
The workshop addressed classroom challenges and provided participants with hands-on experience in various assessment components across scholastic and co-scholastic areas. It underscored the importance of learning processes, outcomes, and the multifaceted nature of assessment.
Interactive Activities and Future Initiatives
On the second day, educators engaged in activities centered around the concepts of Learning Outcomes, Activity, Reflection, and Assessment (LAAR), as well as Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART) objectives. These sessions aimed to enhance creativity and practical application of assessment strategies.
The program concluded with a feedback session, reaffirming the commitment to ongoing initiatives that empower educators to shape motivated and competent students. This aligns with CBSE’s efforts to implement competency-based education as outlined in the National Education Policy 2020. The Board has taken multiple steps towards this goal, including aligning assessments with competencies and continuous capacity building of teachers.
