CHAKULIA – A tigress that escaped from Odisha’s Simlipal forest reached the Rajabasa jungle in Chakulia block’s Kaliyan Panchayat early Monday morning, sparking fear among local residents. The tigress is being tracked by Odisha’s forest department along with Chakulia forest officials, as it continues to roam the area.

GPS Tracking and Safety Measures

The tigress, wearing a GPS tracker collar, is frequently changing its location, making it challenging for forest teams to monitor its movements. Forest officials have issued warnings to villagers in Rajabasa, Hathibari, Godrashol, Jambani, Kaliyan, Shalbani, and Kalajhor. Residents have been advised to avoid using the airstrip road and to refrain from leaving livestock in the forest.

Local Authorities Issue Alerts

Daso Hembram, the Panchayat chief, has cautioned villagers to remain vigilant. Meanwhile, Chakulia’s Range Forest Officer-in-Charge, Digvijay Singh, confirmed the tigress’s presence near Rajabasa and stated that forest teams from Odisha and Jharkhand are closely monitoring the situation. Officials continue to patrol the area and update villagers on safety measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
