Key Points:
- Foundation stone laid for Chakulia-Budamara rail line
- Former Health Minister Dr. Dinesh Kumar Shandilya’s long-standing dream realized
- Rail line to benefit tribal districts in Jharkhand and Odisha
JAMSHEDPUR – President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the construction of the Chakulia-Budamara railway line on Saturday in Gurumahisani, Odisha. This event also marked the realization of former Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Dinesh Kumar Shandilya’s dream, who had advocated for this project since 1977.
Dr. Shandilya had led multiple movements and approached various Union Ministers to push for the Chakulia-Budamara rail line. The project’s commencement fulfills a long-standing demand of the tribal-dominated districts of East Singhbhum in Jharkhand and Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar in Odisha.
Completion of this railway line will place Baharagora on the railway map, providing residents with enhanced travel facilities. Dr. Shandilya expressed his happiness over the project’s initiation, stating that the railway line will benefit people from Baharagora, Gudabanda, Saraskona, Bangriposi, and parts of West Bengal like Gopiballavpur and Nayagram blocks.
Moreover, the new rail line is expected to reduce the distance between New Delhi and key destinations such as Bhubaneswar, Puri, Chandbali, Paradip, and Visakhapatnam ports by approximately 100 kilometers. This reduction is anticipated to boost economic and overall development in the regions connected by the railway.
