JAMSHEDPUR – Noted lyricist Ganga Prasad Arun was honored with the ‘Nirmal Milind Smriti Award’ in a heartfelt ceremony held at his residence in Birsanagar.
The award, which includes ₹11,000 and a certificate, was presented by renowned storyteller Jayanandan. Given Arun’s ongoing battle with cancer, the event was organized at his home to accommodate his health condition.
Nirmal Milind’s Literary Legacy
Jayanandan reminisced about Nirmal Milind’s vast contributions to Indian literature, describing him as a “literary nursery” who nurtured budding writers. Milind’s work spanned poetry, novels, plays, satire, and children’s literature. His pioneering novel in Bajjika, Gitiya, was particularly notable.
“Nirmal Milind was always thinking about poetry,” Jayanandan said. “His creations appeared in national publications and touched diverse genres.”
Dr. Ragini Bhushan highlighted Milind’s encouragement of women in literature. She enriched the event by performing a lyrical recitation of Arun’s composition.

Jayanandan praised Arun’s deep literary insights and expressed hope for his recovery. Dineshwar Prasad Singh, a poet and journalist, also lauded Arun, recalling Milind’s close association with both of them. “Arun Ji will regain his health and continue contributing to literature,” Singh said.
Arvind Vidrohi, a satirist and editor, called the award a fitting recognition for Arun’s talent. He emphasized Milind’s efforts to promote women’s involvement in literature.
A Successful Event
The event, spearheaded by Milind’s wife, Archana Milind, saw enthusiastic participation from local literary figures. Poets and writers including Mano Kamana Singh, Kumar, Ashok Shubdarshi, and Rajesh Bhojpuriya graced the ceremony. Ashok Shubdarshi served as the event’s host.
