Jharkhand Assembly Elections Conclude Peacefully Amid Naxal Areas

Voters Defy Maoist Boycott Calls as Security Forces Ensure Smooth Polling Process

Key Points:

• All 81 assembly constituencies complete voting across two phases without violence

• Voters turnout high in Naxal-affected regions despite boycott threats

• Significant decline in Maoist disruptions compared to previous elections

RANCHI – The second phase of polling were completed today in Jharkhand without any major untoward incident being reported from anywhere. Even in the naxalism affected areas the polls went on peacefully and without any disturbance in what is being seen as a major win for the Election Commission and the democratic institutions in the state.

The recently concluded Jharkhand assembly elections marked a watershed moment as voters across Naxal-affected regions participated enthusiastically despite threats.

Security forces maintained strict vigilance across polling stations in sensitive areas.

The strengthened security presence effectively deterred any major disruption attempts.

"The overwhelming turnout shows people’s faith in democracy has triumphed over fear," remarked a senior security official.

Recent Electoral Developments

Meanwhile, districts like Latehar, Palamu, and Gumla witnessed unprecedented voter participation.

The Pathalgadi-affected villages of Khuntakti reversed their 2019 boycott with strong turnout.

Transformation in Former Hotspots

In contrast, the once volatile Shikaripara region of Dumka now shows minimal Maoist presence.

The peaceful conduct of elections reflects the changing dynamics in these areas.

Historical Perspective

However, the 2014 elections had witnessed multiple violent incidents, including a deadly ambush.

The situation improved significantly by 2019, though some disturbances occurred.

On the other hand, the current elections demonstrate the success of counterinsurgency efforts.
