High female voter turnout intensifies BJP-JMM battle in Baharagora.
Key Points:
– Female voter turnout exceeded male turnout by 5,000 votes.
– BJP and JMM campaigns focused heavily on women’s empowerment.
– Women’s support likely to determine the election winner.
JAMSHEDPUR – The battle for Baharagora Assembly constituency has taken an intriguing turn, with women voters emerging as the decisive factor in the Jharkhand elections.
In this election, women outvoted men, casting 97,542 votes compared to 93,603 by men. The 81.59% turnout among women overshadowed the 76.57% male turnout, making women a key demographic in the race between BJP’s Dr. Dineshanand Goswami and JMM’s Sameer Kumar Mohanty.
Both BJP and JMM focused their campaigns on women-centric initiatives. BJP highlighted free ration, the PM Awas Yojana, and the Gogo Didi Scheme, organizing women’s honor ceremonies in Baharagora and Chakulia, attended by leaders like Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
Meanwhile, JMM emphasized schemes like the Maiya Samman Yojana, electricity bill waivers, and KCC loan waivers. Star campaigner Kalpana Soren, wife of CM Hemant Soren, led Mahiya Samman Yatra events in Baharagora and Chakulia, while the CM himself reinforced these themes during rallies.
With a total voter turnout of 79.28% (180,186 of 239,892 votes cast), much of the outcome hinges on whether BJP’s welfare programs or JMM’s empowerment initiatives resonate more with women. The results are expected to reflect the significant role played by women voters in shaping the future of Baharagora.
