WEST BOKARO – Tata Steel Foundation, the social impact arm of Tata Steel, is making a tangible difference in West Bokaro through initiatives focused on education, skill development, and economic empowerment.

In FY24 alone, the foundation’s Pre-Matriculation Coaching (PMC) classes have helped 1,826 students improve their foundational skills in math, science, and English.

Through the Jyoti Fellowship Program, financial support has been provided to 712 meritorious students from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), from grade 7 to postgraduate levels, facilitating their pursuit of higher education.

The Green School initiative, targeting students in grades 6-8, provides practical education on climate change and sustainability.

Career counseling camps and placement drives organized in partnership with the Model Career Center in Jamshedpur secured jobs for 78 students, including roles at Wistron Electronics in Bangalore.

Support has also been extended to seven female candidates pursuing BSc Nursing and General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) training, with 22 students qualifying for the Jharkhand Nursing Entrance Exam.

In collaboration with the NIIT Foundation, Tata Steel Foundation has introduced computer and English language courses at Jai Hind Vidya Niketan in Sondiha, aimed at equipping students with essential digital skills.

Additionally, nearly 500 rural women will soon enroll in digital literacy programs, enabling them to acquire vital technology skills.

Priti Kumari, a 22-year-old from Ghatotand, shared her experience: “Getting a job in Bangalore was both exciting and nerve-wracking, as I had never left my hometown. Today, I am not only more confident but also financially independent, and I hope more girls achieve their dreams.”

Tata Steel Foundation’s comprehensive approach underscores the impact of targeted interventions in education, skill development, and economic empowerment, ultimately paving the way for a brighter future in West Bokaro.
