CHAIBASA – The influential Sumbrui family’s six-decade political reign in Chaibasa comes to an end as Vimal Sumbrui fails to maintain his father’s legacy.
Bagun Sumbrui established himself as a prominent tribal leader through multiple electoral victories.
Moreover, he served five terms as MP and four terms as MLA between 1952 and 1977.
Meanwhile, his wife Muktidani created history as the first tribal woman MLA from Chaibasa.
Furthermore, she secured consecutive victories in 1977 and 1980 elections.
However, Vimal Sumbrui faced defeats in both his electoral attempts in 2005 and 2019.
In addition, BJP’s Putkar Hembram ended the family’s dominance in the 2005 elections.
On the other hand, JMM’s Deepak Birua further consolidated the opposition’s position in 2009.
Besides, the upcoming 2024 Assembly elections mark a new chapter in regional politics.
