JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel’s CEO T.V. Narendran has been elected as the new Chairman of the World Steel Association, marking a significant milestone for Indian leadership in the global steel industry.
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced a major leadership change.
T.V. Narendran, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Steel, has been elected as its new Chairman.
This appointment marks a significant achievement for Indian representation in the global steel industry.
Notably, Narendran is the second Indian to hold this prestigious position.
He follows in the footsteps of JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal, who was elected in 2021.
Meanwhile, the association has also elected two Vice Chairs to support Narendran’s leadership.
Ugur Dalbeler of Colakoglu Metalurji AS and Leon Topalian of Nucor Corporation will serve in these roles.
Furthermore, Narendran has been appointed to the association’s 17-member Executive Committee.
This committee includes other prominent figures from the global steel industry.
Among them are Sajjan Jindal, ArcelorMittal’s LN Mittal, and the newly elected Vice Chairs.
Additionally, the committee boasts representation from major steel-producing nations.
Members hail from countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United States, South Korea, and Japan.
Moreover, the committee includes leaders from China, Brazil, Argentina, and Austria.
A steel industry analyst commented, "This diverse leadership reflects the global nature of the steel industry."
Importantly, worldsteel represents a significant portion of global steel production.
Its members account for approximately 85% of the world’s steel output.
