BJP Faces Seat-Sharing Challenge in Jharkhand

NDA Allies RLD and LJP-Ram Vilas Stake Claims for Assembly Polls

Key Points:

• RLD demands 20-22 seats, LJP-Ram Vilas eyes 32-34 in Jharkhand polls

• BJP’s Himanta Biswa Sarma claims alliance with AJSU and JD-U finalized

• NDA allies’ demands complicate BJP’s election strategy in Jharkhand

RANCHI – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is grappling with seat-sharing demands from its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners in poll-bound Jharkhand.

RLD and LJP-Ram Vilas have staked claims for a significant number of seats.

Meanwhile, BJP co-election in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma had previously announced an alliance with AJSU and JD-U.

However, RLD General Secretary Trilok Tyagi has expressed interest in contesting 20-22 seats.

"We expect our demand for 20 seats in Jharkhand to be considered," Tyagi stated.

Moreover, he hinted at the possibility of RLD contesting alone if not given "respectable seats."

On the other hand, LJP-Ram Vilas is eyeing 32 to 34 seats in the upcoming elections.

LJP-Ram Vilas chief Chirag Paswan has kept all options open, including going solo.

Furthermore, the party’s Jharkhand president, Virendra Pradhan, emphasized their strong presence in the state.

Meanwhile, JD-U, led by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, is focusing on three to four key seats.

However, the BJP has remained tight-lipped about potential alliances with RLD and LJP-Ram Vilas.

In contrast, the ruling coalition’s popular welfare schemes pose an additional challenge for the BJP.

Notably, in the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, BJP won 25 out of 81 seats.

"The seat-sharing arrangement remains contentious," a reliable source close to the negotiations revealed.
