CHANDIL – Longtime JMM leader Rupesh Verma has resigned, alleging disrespect by local leadership.

Rupesh Verma, also known as Pappu Verma, officially announced his decision to leave the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) during a press conference in Chandil on Tuesday.

Verma had been with the party for 26 years, playing a key role in strengthening it.

He notably contributed to the success of JMM’s Sabita Mahto in the 2019 assembly election for the Ichagarh constituency.

He confirmed that he had sent his resignation to JMM’s central president, Shibu Soren, on September 28.

During the press meet, Verma became emotional while recalling his political journey and close relationship with the late Sudhir Mahto.

Though Verma did not specify the details of the disrespect, he indicated that local leadership was responsible.

He has not yet disclosed his next political move, but he plans to decide within 24 hours.

There are growing rumors of dissatisfaction within the party, especially in the Ichagarh area, where allegations of nepotism are being raised against the local leadership.

This internal strife may impact current Ichagarh MLA Sabita Mahto’s chances in the next assembly elections.

The departure of several prominent leaders from JMM could pose significant challenges for the party in upcoming elections.
