Millets-focused event promotes ‘Nutrition for All’ theme

JAMSHEDPUR – A one-day seminar at Jamshedpur Women’s University highlighted the nutritional benefits of millets, aiming to promote their consumption.
The event, themed "Nutrition for All," focused on millets as part of International Year of Millets 2023 initiatives.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Anjila Gupta inaugurated the seminar alongside other dignitaries.
Dr. Rama Subramaniam, Head of Home Science, explained the seminar’s purpose in spreading awareness about millets’ nutritional value.
"Millets, our traditional dietary heritage, can bring economic and physical prosperity to India and the world," stated Dr. Gupta in her address.
Prof. Syed Ahmad emphasized the need for more research on millets’ importance.
In the plenary session, Prof. Zarina Begum discussed the health benefits of various millets like ragi, jowar, and bajra.
Dr. Swati Shikha advocated for including millets in daily diets and community nutrition programs.
"Millets are being established as a crucial component in community nutrition programs," said a local nutritionist attending the seminar.
The event featured competitions such as developing nutritious millet dishes, quizzes, and extempore speeches.
Participants received awards for various competitions held during the seminar.
Faculty members from different departments and a large number of NSS, NCC, and other students attended the event.
In the Millets Recipe competition, Tina Tanti and Asifa Naj secured first place.
