SIT to Investigate Jamshedpur Bar Association Irregularities
Jharkhand High Court mandates a three-member SIT to investigate financial irregularities in the Jamshedpur District Bar Association, barring officials from withdrawing funds.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand High Court, led by Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra, has taken a significant step in addressing the alleged financial irregularities within the Jamshedpur District Bar Association.
During the recent PIL hearing, the court directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising three members.
This team will include a police officer of IG rank, one DSP rank officer, and an inspector rank officer.
The responsibility of constituting the SIT has been entrusted to the Director-General of Police (DGP).
In a parallel move, the court appointed an administrator to oversee the withdrawal of funds from the Bar Association’s account for necessary expenses.
This decision effectively prevents any association official from accessing these funds.
The High Court has scheduled the next hearing for this case in the third week of March 2024 and expects the SIT to present its report at that time.
It was revealed in a previous hearing that an FIR had already been filed regarding these irregularities.
However, the applicant’s advocate expressed concerns about the lack of progress in the investigation.
This development follows a letter from the Jharkhand State Bar Council to the Jamshedpur SSP, urging the registration of an FIR based on an audit report detailing these irregularities.
Advocate Rajesh Jaiswal, who filed the PIL, had specifically requested an audit of the Jamshedpur District Bar Association.
The High Court’s decision marks a pivotal moment in ensuring transparency and accountability within one of the region’s key legal institutions.
