MLA Saryu Roy Inspects Flood-Prone Areas, Urges Precautions

Jamshedpur Rivers Near Danger Mark as Dams Release Water

Key Points:

• Kharkai River flows 2.28 meters above danger level after dam gates open

• Swarnarekha River nears danger mark, expected to rise further

• MLA advises residents to take precautions, authorities to stay vigilant

JAMSHEDPUR – Local rivers are approaching critical levels as upstream dams release water, prompting officials to inspect flood-prone areas and issue warnings.

Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy conducted an inspection of riverside areas on Monday evening.

The tour covered regions between Adityapur Bridge and Mango Bridge along the Kharkai and Swarnarekha rivers.

Moreover, Roy visited lower settlement areas in Kalyan Nagar to assess the situation.

The Kharkai River is currently flowing 2.28 meters above its danger level.

This surge is due to the opening of two sluice gates at Odisha’s Bankabal Dam.

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand government has opened two gates of the Chandil Dam.

This action aims to manage the inflow and protect submerged areas.

Consequently, the Swarnarekha River’s water level has risen to 121.22 meters.

It is now dangerously close to its 121.50-meter danger mark.

Furthermore, the Chandil Dam’s current water level stands at 182.10 meters.

With ongoing water release, the Swarnarekha may exceed its danger mark tonight.

MLA Roy has requested the Water Resources Department to regulate the Chandil Dam’s outflow.

This measure aims to mitigate flooding risks in lower Jamshedpur areas.

He advised residents to take precautions and move belongings to higher ground.

Additionally, Roy urged the District Administration and JNAC to remain vigilant.

A local official stated, "We’re prepared to provide shelter and resources to those affected by potential flooding."
