Railways Retain Tatanagar’s NSG-2 Status, Upgrade Ranchi, Hatia Stations

JAMSHEDPUR – The Ministry of Railways has announced its latest station categorization for the fiscal year 2024-25, maintaining Tatanagar’s classification as an NSG-2 station, while upgrading several other key stations in Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha.

Tatanagar, a pivotal junction in the South Eastern Railway zone, continues to hold its NSG-2 status, underscoring its significance in the region’s rail network.

This categorization reflects the station’s consistent performance in terms of passenger traffic and revenue generation, which have kept it among the top-tier stations.

However, while Tatanagar’s status remains unchanged, the latest reclassification has brought significant upgrades to other stations in Jharkhand.

Both Ranchi and Hatia stations have been elevated to the NSG-2 category, recognizing their growing passenger numbers and increasing revenue.

This upgrade is expected to attract further investments, leading to enhanced infrastructure and better passenger services at these stations.

Upgrades in Bengal and Odisha

The reclassification also saw improvements for several stations in West Bengal and Odisha.

In Odisha, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela stations have been upgraded, reflecting the region’s rising importance in the national rail network.

Meanwhile, in West Bengal, stations like Kharagpur and Asansol have also moved up in the categorization, signifying their expanding role in handling increased rail traffic.

A senior official from the Railway Ministry noted, “The recent upgrades in Jharkhand, Bengal, and Odisha are part of our ongoing efforts to modernize the railway network, ensuring that key stations are equipped to meet future demands.”

Tatanagar, despite not being upgraded in this cycle, remains a crucial part of the railway infrastructure in Jharkhand and continues to benefit from its established NSG-2 status.

This ongoing classification reinforces the station’s role as a critical hub, connecting major cities and facilitating the movement of both passengers and goods.
