Heavy rain forecast for Ranchi amid concerns over water availability and agriculture

RANCHI – Jharkhand has recorded a 10% rainfall deficit as the monsoon weakens, with 718 mm received against the expected 798 mm as of August 31.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for Ranchi and other districts until September 6.
Despite this forecast, the monsoon has been notably weak, with rainfall occurring mainly in isolated areas.
Dumri, Giridih recorded the highest rainfall at 12.5 mm, while Babanagari, Deoghar experienced the highest temperature of 35.7°C.
Ranchi registered the lowest minimum temperature at 23.4°C.
A depression forming in southern Odisha and adjoining regions is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area within 24 hours.
Abhishek Anand, head of the Ranchi-based weather centre, stated that the monsoon trough currently extends from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan to the Bay of Bengal.
Meteorologists advise the public to stay alert and seek shelter during adverse weather conditions on September 2.
Farmers are cautioned to avoid fields during thunderstorms and rain.
The maximum temperature may drop by 2-3°C over the next few days, with no significant change expected afterward.
