Jamshedpur FC signs local talent Samir Murmu, the Santosh Trophy Player of the Tournament, on a two-year deal.

JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur FC has signed 22-year-old local striker Samir Murmu on a two-year contract following his impressive Santosh Trophy performance.

Murmu, hailing from Bhagaband village near Ghatsila, has emerged as one of Indian football’s most promising young talents.

The striker’s exceptional performance in the 2023-24 Santosh Trophy, where he netted 10 goals in 13 matches, earned him the Player of the Tournament award.

This achievement also led to his selection for the India U-23 squad, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Murmu’s journey began at the Football Feeder Center, supported by the Tata Steel Foundation, under coach Kanu Murmu’s guidance.

His talent propelled him to the Army Boys Hostel, Danapur Bihar Regiment, where he represented Bihar and the Army in various tournaments.

"I’m immensely proud to represent my hometown and the Kolhan region in the ISL," Murmu expressed upon joining Jamshedpur FC.

He added, "This is the biggest opportunity of my life, and I’m determined to give it my all to secure my place in the team."

Murmu’s football journey includes winning the Junior National BC Roy Trophy with Bihar U19 in 2016 and finishing as runner-up in the 2017 U17 Subroto Cup with Army Boys.

After achieving the rank of Sepoy in the Indian Army, he played for Army Red and participated in the Durand Cup from 2022 to 2024.

Jamshedpur FC’s Head Coach Khalid Jamil praised Murmu’s versatility, stating, "Samir offers flexibility and depth to our squad with his ability to play across multiple positions."

Jamil emphasized that Murmu embodies the club’s vision to nurture and showcase homegrown talent.

The young striker, who will wear jersey number 34, has already joined the Men of Steel in training.

This signing marks an exciting new chapter for both Murmu and Jamshedpur FC as they look to make their mark in the upcoming season.
