Former CM contemplates launching own party ahead of state assembly elections
Champai Soren, ex-Jharkhand CM, is poised to make a significant political move, potentially reshaping the state’s political landscape.
SERAIKELA – Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has indicated he’s on the verge of embarking on a new political journey, possibly launching his own party.
Upon returning from New Delhi, Champai Soren affirmed his commitment to remain in politics.
He dismissed retirement plans, citing overwhelming support from his followers. Earlier, he had even shared an emotional note on “X” with his supporters explaining the reasons for his disenchantment with JMM leadership.
The former CM stated, "I’ve decided against resignation due to the immense affection shown by my supporters."
Soren emphasized he’s now considering two options: forming a new party or aligning with like-minded individuals.
Political Landscape Impact
Soren’s potential new party could significantly influence Jharkhand’s upcoming assembly elections.
Experts suggest he might emerge as a kingmaker, especially in tribal-dominated constituencies.

"Champai Soren’s influence in tribal areas could be a game-changer for Jharkhand’s political dynamics," a political analyst commented.
His decision may affect both the ruling alliance and opposition strategies.
Reasons for New Direction
Soren expressed feeling "bitter humiliation" during his chief ministership, prompting this potential shift.
He hinted at starting a "new chapter" in his political career, possibly as soon as the following day.
"Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new phase in our journey," Soren declared to his supporters.
Future Possibilities
Sources suggest Soren might:
1. Form an independent party
2. Align with disgruntled JMM and Congress leaders
3. Join NDA partners, excluding BJP
However, sources also indicated that his move could particularly challenge BJP’s tribal faces like Babulal Marandi and Arjun Munda in the upcoming elections.
His entry into BJP might pose a challenge for both Arjun Munda and Babulal Marandi. Arjun Munda himself may have set eyes on the CM’s post despite defeat in Lok Sabha elections and is stated to also keen on fielding his wife on Seraikela seat.
On the other hand, Babulal Marandi was ostensibly inducted into the party on the condition that he would the CM face for the party and it is not yet known how Babulal Marandi and his supporters would react to Champai Soren’s induction into NDA fold.
However, the fact that Himanta Biswa Sarma himself is batting for Champai Soren, these political challenges may be tackled easily through his intervention.
Champai Soren is too big in stature to not try to resolve these practical problems at the ground level.
Political sources hint that Champai Soren is likely to float a new party and contest the elections as a part of NDA in the days to come.
This is one possibility that benefits all sides involved in the new emerging permutation and combination.
