BOKARO — Four masked men broke into the home of a contract worker in Bokaro’s Kurmidhih locality late Tuesday night and beat him so severely that he was found barely conscious the next morning.
The victim, Suresh Saw, works as a contract labourer at Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL). He had been sleeping alone at his residence in the Balidih police station area. At around 1:30 AM, the four assailants forced open his door and entered the house.
The attackers pinned Saw down and subjected him to brutal physical assault. Meanwhile, they also allegedly inflicted severe bodily harm on him. The assailants then fled, leaving him in a near-unconscious state.
Saw regained his senses only in the morning. He then alerted neighbouring residents about the attack. Local people rushed him to Sadar Hospital for immediate treatment. Doctors at the facility described his condition as serious.
Balidih police reached the spot after receiving information. They recorded Saw’s statement and launched a formal investigation. In addition, officers have begun reviewing CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area. Police said they were working to identify the accused and that arrests were expected soon.
Saw told investigators that he had no known personal enmity with anyone. He originally hails from outside Bokaro and had been residing there solely for work. However, he expressed suspicion that the assault may have been linked to some past grudge. Since all four attackers wore masks, he was unable to identify any of them.
The Bokaro police are examining multiple angles in the case. The attack has spread fear among residents of the Kurmidhih locality. Attacks of this nature on contract labourers living alone have raised concerns about the safety of migrant workers in Jharkhand’s industrial towns. The Bokaro Steel Plant employs a large number of such contract workers, many of whom live in rented accommodation without family support.
