LIC Divisional Chess Tournament 2024 Underway in Jamshedpur
Asha Kumari leads women’s category; Himangshu B Chakraborty tops men’s after day one
The LIC Divisional Chess Tournament 2024 commenced on August 12 at the LIE Sports Club in Bistupur, Jamshedpur.
JAMSHEDPUR – The two-day LIC Divisional Chess Tournament 2024 kicked off on August 12 at the LIE Sports Club in Bistupur, featuring 12 participants across men’s and women’s categories.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Kanhai Hansda, Manager Personal, and Guest of Honor Jaywant Lugun, AO Sports.
G. Ravi Shankar, Honorary Secretary of LIE Sports Club, and D.P. Balmiki, Treasurer, were also present at the ceremony.
IA Chandan Kumar Prasad is serving as the Chief Arbiter for the tournament.
After the first day’s play, Asha Kumari from Daltonganj leads the women’s category with a perfect score of 3 points.
In the men’s category, Himangshu B Chakraborty is at the top with 3 points after defeating Mahendra Kumar Sahoo.
Kartik Chandra Das emerged victorious against Glorius Minz.
Ashok Das triumphed over Gyanchand Nonia in their match.
Rajesh Kumar Ravi secured a win in his game against S.D. Sharma.
The tournament, which aims to promote chess within the LIC community, will conclude on August 13 with the final results expected after all rounds are completed.
Eight players are competing in the men’s category, while four participants are vying for the top spot in the women’s division.
This local chess event continues to showcase and nurture talent from the region.
