CHAIBASA – Minister Biruwa distributes torches and fireworks to villagers for elephant protection, assures compensation for damages.

On Tuesday, Jharkhand’s Transport Minister Deepak Biruwa visited the elephant-affected areas of Hatgamharia block.

He held a meeting in Nurda village to discuss the issues faced by the villagers.

Residents from various villages, including Nurda, Talaburu, Illigada, Serengsia, Sagarkatta, Poonsia, Kudapi, and Rengobasa, attended the meeting.

Forest department officials were also present.

Minister Biruwa distributed large torches and fireworks among the villagers to help them ward off elephants.

Compensation forms for damages caused by elephants were also distributed to the affected villagers.

The villagers expressed their fear and concern about the destruction caused by roaming elephant herds.

They explained that the elephants are destroying crops in various villages, causing significant problems for the farmers.

Due to the elephant threat, villagers have been keeping night vigils.

Forest department officials provided tips on how to protect themselves from elephants.

Minister Biruwa advised villagers not to enter elephant-affected forests and to gather in one place if a herd approaches their village.

He emphasized using torches to deter elephants from entering the village.

He also cautioned against throwing stones at elephants, as this can provoke them.

The minister directed forest officials to offer support and assistance to the villagers.

He instructed forest personnel to stay with the villagers on designated days to help drive away the elephants.
