Women’s Empowerment Drives Jharkhand’s Economic Growth
CM Soren’s Initiatives Boost Financial Independence for Rural Women
Jharkhand’s government prioritizes women’s economic empowerment, focusing on rural and tribal communities. Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s administration has implemented various schemes to enhance women’s participation in business and improve their financial independence.
RANCHI – Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s government has launched multiple initiatives to empower women economically in Jharkhand, with a focus on rural and tribal communities.
The Palash Brand has emerged as a significant success story in the state’s efforts to boost women’s economic participation.
Over 100,000 women have increased their income through this initiative, generating sales of Rs 3982.00 lakh in less than three years.
The brand’s resilience during the COVID-19 economic crisis highlights the determination of these women entrepreneurs.
To further expand this success, the government plans to establish the "Palash Enterprises Company" for commercial operations, aiming to accelerate rural economic growth.
The Maiyan Samman Yojana (JMMSY) is another key program introduced by the Jharkhand government to support women financially.
This scheme provides Rs 1,000 monthly to women aged 21 to 50 years, with a target of reaching approximately 50 lakh beneficiaries.
The eligibility criteria are straightforward, requiring only Jharkhand residency and an Aadhaar-linked bank account.
For those without Aadhaar-linked accounts, alternative arrangements have been made to ensure inclusivity.
Education plays a crucial role in the government’s empowerment strategy, as evidenced by the Savitribai Phule Kishori Samriddhi Yojana.
This initiative offers financial assistance to adolescent girls, providing up to Rs 40,000 across five stages from class eight to twelve.
Currently benefiting about 8 lakh students, the scheme aims to connect 9 lakh girls in the current financial year.
"Our goal is to provide girls with the financial support they need to pursue higher education or vocational training, ultimately leading to self-reliance," stated an official involved with the program.
The government has also addressed food security through various schemes, including subsidized rice distribution and the Sona Sobaran Dhoti-Saree Scheme.
These initiatives ensure that basic necessities are accessible to a large number of beneficiaries at affordable rates.
The Sarvajan Pension Yojana has seen a significant increase in its reach, now benefiting 36.2 lakh people compared to 15 lakh in 2019.
Additionally, the Phulo Jhano Ashirwad Abhiyan provides financial assistance to support women’s self-respect, recently increasing its support to Rs 50,000 per beneficiary.
The Rural Development Department has made substantial progress in providing bank credit to self-help groups, with linkages of approximately Rs 8,250 crore extended to 1.4 lakh groups.
This marks a significant increase from the Rs 640 crore credited by the previous government until December 2019.
Despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jharkhand government’s focus on women’s empowerment has yielded notable results, contributing to the state’s overall economic growth and social development.
