Widespread Impact of One-Day Kolhan Bandh by CPI Maoists in Manoharpur and Anandpur Blocks
Normal life disrupted; essential services spared during the shutdown.
Railway operations affected due to Naxalite activity.
CHAKRADHARPUR – The one-day Kolhan shutdown called by CPI Maoists on Wednesday had a significant impact in the Manoharpur and Anandpur blocks.
The shutdown disrupted daily life, although press vehicles, ambulances, milk supply, and emergency hospital services were exempted.
During the shutdown, a Naxalite banner was discovered at pole number 378/19 between Manoharpur and Jaraikela stations on the Howrah-Mumbai main railway line, and another at Jaraikela station.
The Manoharpur station manager reported the banners at 2:40 AM.
The banners were removed by Manoharpur police, Railway Protection Force, and CRPF (CoBRA) personnel by 5:30 AM.
The banner announced the one-day shutdown on July 10, 2024, in protest against the alleged police massacre in Lobada, Kolhan-Saranda (Lipunga).
Train operations on the Howrah-Mumbai route resumed after a delay of approximately three hours.
The shutdown also led to the complete halt of operations at all government and non-government establishments, as well as the suspension of long-distance and local passenger and goods vehicles, causing significant inconvenience to the public.
Roads were deserted during the shutdown.
Police administration, CRPF (CoBRA), and Railway Protection Force personnel were on high alert in the areas under the Manoharpur Circle, including Manoharpur, Anandpur, Jaraikela, Chhotanagra, and Chirda OP police stations.
