BDO Rescinds Order Halting Development Work in Railway Areas
Jamshedpur Block Officials and Panchayat Representatives Discuss Path Forward
BDO Sudha Verma reverses suspension of development projects in 18 Panchayats within railway areas, sparking discussions on future implementation strategies.
JAMSHEDPUR – Block Development Officer (BDO) Sudha Verma has rescinded a previous order that suspended development work in 18 Panchayats located in the Railway areas of Bagbera, Parsudih, and Govindpur.
The reversal comes amid ongoing discussions between local officials and Panchayat representatives about the future of development projects in these areas.
"We’re reassessing the situation to ensure proper implementation of development schemes," Verma stated during a meeting at the Block headquarters.
The BDO issued a new directive annulling the previous suspension order dated June 22.
Copies of the new order were sent to the Assistant Engineer, Junior Engineers, and Panchayat Secretaries for immediate action.
Stakeholder Meeting and Reactions
Verma convened a meeting with various stakeholders to discuss the way forward.
Attendees included Panchayat representatives, Block head and Deputy Head, Station OCs from various Police stations, Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers, and Panchayat Secretaries.
During the meeting, the BDO advised Panchayat Representatives to present their concerns to Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal for decisions on development works.
The suggestion received mixed reactions from Panchayat Representatives.
While some agreed with the approach, others raised questions about the implementation of development projects.
"Why can recommendations from MPs and MLAs be implemented in railway areas, but not those funded by Panchayat Representatives?" one attendee asked during the meeting.
Next Steps and Ongoing Concerns
Some representatives called for clear demarcation of railway areas through correspondence with railway authorities.
BDO Verma instructed Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers, and Panchayat Secretaries to conduct thorough investigations for scheme selection and prepare measurement books accordingly.
The Purvi Singhbhum Zila Mukhiya Sangh has submitted a demand letter to Nisha Oran, Director of the Panchayati Raj Department in Ranchi, highlighting concerns about the BDO’s decision-making process.
Neenu Kudada, Chief of North-East Bagbera Panchayat, indicated that the Mukhiyas of the 18 affected Panchayats would meet to discuss the matter further once MNREGA training in Ranchi concludes.
This ongoing situation underscores the complex interplay between local governance, development needs, and jurisdictional issues in Jamshedpur’s railway areas.
