GRP arrests Odisha man for heinous crime against child beggar at railway station, sparking safety concerns.

JAMSHEDPUR – A seven-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in a stationary train coach at Tatanagar Railway Station on Thursday evening, with the suspect apprehended by Government Railway Police (GRP) officers who heard the child’s screams.

The accused, identified as Silan Kumar (30) from Cuttack, Odisha, was caught in the act by GRP personnel.

The victim, in critical condition with severe bleeding, was initially taken to Sadar Hospital before being transferred to MGM Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to the child’s mother, who begs for a living at the station, the suspect lured her daughter with biscuits and chocolates.

"I searched everywhere but couldn’t find her," the distraught mother told police.

Railway SP Pravin Pushkar confirmed the suspect arrived that morning on the Utkal Express, claiming to be job-hunting in Jamshedpur.

"We’ve registered a case based on the mother’s statement and will remand the accused," Pushkar stated.

This horrific incident has shocked the local community, raising concerns about child safety in public spaces.

Authorities are urging increased vigilance and community awareness to prevent such crimes against vulnerable children.

Local child welfare organizations have called for enhanced security measures at railway stations and other public areas frequented by homeless families.

As the investigation continues, police are working to determine if the suspect has a history of similar offenses.
