Hemant Soren Challenges Summons Contempt Case in High Court

Former CM Seeks Quashing of MP-MLA Court Proceedings

Jharkhand High Court grants time extension, directs ED to file response.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand High Court on Saturday heard a petition by former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, challenging the summons contempt case against him in the MP-MLA court.

Soren’s legal team contested the court’s cognizance order in the ongoing case.

"We requested additional time to present our case fully," a JMM supporter stated after the hearing.

The High Court accepted Soren’s request for more time, scheduling the next hearing for July 12.

Soren argued that he had not disobeyed any ED summons, claiming responses were sent for instances when he couldn’t appear.

"The initial summons lapsed after my response, and I appeared when summoned again," Soren told the court.

The former CM accused the ED of sending "malice-motivated" messages repeatedly.

Following the hearing, the court directed the Enforcement Directorate to file a reply in the matter.

This case highlights the ongoing legal challenges faced by Soren since stepping down as Chief Minister.

The High Court’s decision to hear this petition adds a new dimension to the legal proceedings against Soren.

Legal experts are closely watching this case for its potential implications on similar contempt proceedings.
