Jamshedpur Witnesses Massive Labor Day Rallies for Workers’ Rights

Labor Day Demonstrations Highlight Struggles and Unity in Jamshedpur

On May 1, World Labor Day, Jamshedpur became the focal point for massive worker demonstrations organized by major labor unions. These rallies addressed various challenges facing workers, including attempts to extend work shifts beyond the traditional eight hours.

JAMSHEDPUR – Numerous laborers marched through Jamshedpur, demanding better employment conditions and protesting against the proposed 12-hour work shifts.

In Barigora, a large group initiated by the All India Trade Union Congress voiced their demand for retaining the eight-hour work rule, established historically through significant labor movements.

"Our forefathers fought hard for the eight-hour workday, making it a global standard we celebrate today. We must resist any changes that threaten this achievement," said Ambuj Thakur, AITUC State Secretary.

Meanwhile, another procession organized by the Indian National Trade Union Congress marched from Bistupur to Telco, emphasizing worker solidarity.

"Today’s celebration is about more than remembrance; it’s about forging unity to defend our rights effectively," commented Rakeshwar Pandey, INTUC State President.

Throughout the city, from urban centers to rural districts, labor leaders led chants and delivered speeches, focusing on the necessity of maintaining labor laws and worker unity in the face of growing challenges.
