Tatanagar Station Redevelopment Begins, Multi-Storey Parking and Amenities Planned
Railway Engineering Department Initiates Parking Area Relocation for Station Upgrade
The Railway Engineering Department has started the initial phase of relocating the parking area at Tatanagar station as part of a broader redevelopment project. This move marks a significant step in preparing for major enhancements at the station.
JAMSHEDPUR – The redevelopment of Tatanagar station has commenced with the relocation of the existing parking area, spearheaded by the Railway Engineering Department.
Land leveling with JCB machinery is underway at a site previously used for station garbage disposal, located at the opposite end of the station road.
This initial step is essential for the planned shifting of the station gate parking, which needs to be removed to accommodate the new station layout designed by the architects.
The Railway Board has allocated a substantial investment of Rs 335 crore for this comprehensive redevelopment project.
The revised plans include the construction of a park and a fountain near the current parking lot, enhancing the station’s aesthetics and passenger experience.
Notices have been issued for the removal of about half a dozen huts around the existing multi-storey parking lot, and there are ongoing preparations to demolish several railway quarters and unauthorized structures along Station Road.
The redevelopment aims to significantly improve passenger amenities, introducing facilities such as restaurants, dormitories, retiring rooms, parks, fountains, indoor game areas, spa facilities, and even cinema halls.
Additionally, the project will include the construction of flyovers and ring roads along the main road, as well as pathways above the railway tracks and subways below them.
Plans for a new multi-storey parking facility are also part of the effort to enhance convenience for passengers.
While the tender process for the full redevelopment of the station has not yet started, the South East Zone and Chakradharpur Division are actively engaged in preparatory work to ensure a smooth start to the project.
