Tata Steel Faces Resistance in Jamshedpur Over Enclosure Plans for Jemco Grounds
Local community protests against Tata Steel’s attempt to encircle popular local playground
In Jamshedpur, Tata Steel’s efforts to enclose the Jemco grounds in the Telco police station area met with strong opposition from the local community. Residents protested against the company’s team, which consisted of members from Tata Steel UISL and the Land Department, highlighting the area’s importance as a communal space for children and morning walkers.
JAMSHEDPUR – The confrontation escalated as community members from Manifit, Mahanand Basti, Machhua Basti, Premnagar, Lakshminagar, Jhagdu Bagan, Mishra Bagan, and Jemco Basti rallied to defend the playground.
The local settlement’s opposition was marked by loud slogans and a spiritual protest, with Sikh women performing kirtan on the site.
This playground serves as a vital recreational space for the community, where children play and residents enjoy morning walks.
Enclosing the area, according to the locals, would deprive the youth of a necessary outlet for play and community activities.
The situation intensified until the Tata Steel team decided to retreat amidst the growing tumult.
Subsequently, prominent leaders of the Sikh community arrived, further amplifying the protest.
