Tragic Death on GT Road in Dhanbad Sparks Outrage

Local Demands for Overbridge Amplify After Fatal Accident in Jamshedpur

A road accident on GT Road near Subhash Chowk in Dhanbad resulted in the death of Punu Mahato, sparking public outrage and demands for an overbridge to prevent future tragedies, as traffic disruption ensued for hours.

DHANBAD – In a tragic incident on GT Road near Subhash Chowk, Punu Mahato, a 45-year-old resident of Buthakulhi, was killed in a road accident, leading to a public outcry and demands for infrastructural changes.

Mahato was crossing the road when he was first hit by a car, then crushed by a speeding truck, dying instantly at the scene.

This event has amplified local demands for an overbridge, citing frequent accidents in the area.

The incident has once again highlighted the perilous state of road safety and infrastructure in Dhanbad, prompting an immediate response from both the community and authorities.

In the aftermath of the accident, the local administration struggled to manage the situation as traffic on GT Road came to a standstill, causing significant disruptions.

A crowd of local residents, angered by the recurrent accidents, swiftly gathered, demanding justice and immediate safety measures.

Their frustration was evident as they blocked the road, insisting on compensation for Mahato’s dependents and the construction of an overbridge to prevent future casualties.

"Accidents on this stretch are a daily occurrence, and despite our repeated requests for an overbridge, our pleas have fallen on deaf ears," stated an unnamed local, reflecting the community’s desperation.

Authorities, including police from Topchanchi and Harihar stations along with CO Sanjay Kumar Singh, were quick to arrive at the scene.

Despite their efforts to calm the crowd and negotiate peace, the people’s anger was not easily quelled.

It took hours of dialogue and the CO’s assurance before the protesters agreed to disperse, finally allowing traffic to resume after a three-hour standstill.

"Ensuring the safety of our citizens is our top priority, and we will take immediate steps to address these concerns," one senior official remarked, aiming to restore faith in the local governance.

Public Outcry

The tragic demise of Punu Mahato has ignited a fierce debate on road safety and infrastructure in Dhanbad.

Local residents are calling for actionable change, refusing to let Mahato’s death be in vain.

The demand for an overbridge at Subhash Chowk underscores a collective effort to safeguard the community against such preventable tragedies.

Punu Mahato, the victim of this sorrowful event, was on his way to work when the accident occurred.

His death has not only left a void in the hearts of his family but also among the residents of Buthakulhi, who mourn the loss of a fellow citizen.
