Hemant Soren awaits court verdict to attend Jharkhand Assembly session
A court’s decision today will clarify if Hemant Soren can attend the upcoming budget session, amidst his judicial custody in a land scam case.
RANCHI – The court is set to deliver a verdict today regarding Hemant Soren’s request to attend the budget session.
Soren, currently in judicial custody over a land scam, seeks court approval for assembly participation.
His arrest by the ED occurred on January 31, following which he was remanded and interrogated.
Post-interrogation, Soren was moved to Hotwar jail to continue his judicial custody.
The court had previously adjourned, pending a decision after Wednesday’s hearing.
Debate ensued in court when the ED opposed Soren’s session attendance, citing suspended rights during custody.
ED’s Zohaib Hussain argued against Soren’s assembly presence, emphasizing the suspension of constitutional rights in custody.
Conversely, Soren’s legal representation argued for his essential role in the upcoming budgetary proceedings.
The budget session, set for February 23 to March 2, necessitates Soren’s presence for vital money bill discussions.
Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan underscored the importance of Soren’s attendance for majority support in passing budget measures.
This pivotal session will include the budget presentation on February 27, highlighting its significance in Jharkhand’s legislative calendar.
