Tragic Well Incident Claims Lives of 3 Children in Kumharsai Kharsawan

Family dispute leads to a devastating accident, leaving entire village in mourning.

In a heart-wrenching incident that has plunged the Kumharsai village under Kharsawan police station area into deep sorrow, a woman jumped into a well with her three children following a domestic altercation, resulting in the tragic death of the children. The woman’s life was saved in a dramatic rescue operation.

SERAIKELA – After a heated argument with her husband, Pooja Mahato took the drastic step of jumping into a well with her offspring.

The incident occurred in Kumharsai village, where the family resided in a rented house.

Ashok Mahato, the father, is employed at a private company in Kharsawan.

Frequent quarrels were reported between the couple, culminating in this tragic event.

The dispute intensified over Pooja’s desire to visit her parents’ house, leading to police intervention.

Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, Ashok left home, unaware of the impending tragedy.

The next morning, villagers were alerted by screams from the well, leading to the discovery.

Villagers found Pooja tied to a well’s motor, with her children, Komal (9), Ananya (5), and Aryan (2), found deceased in the water.

A rescue operation ensued, saving Pooja and retrieving the children’s bodies.

The local community is enveloped in mourning over the loss.

Police action is ongoing, with SDPO Dilip Khalkho indicating further investigation pending a formal complaint.

The mother is currently receiving medical treatment, while the village mourns the irreplaceable loss of young lives.
