Ramlal the Elephant Causes Havoc in Guhiyapal
An elephant’s quest for food leads to the destruction of homes and food stocks in Guhiyapal village, East Singhbhum.
JAMSHEDPUR – The quiet of Guhiyapal village in Baharagora block was shattered on Thursday morning as Ramlal, an elephant, wreaked havoc, targeting five houses and extensively damaging villagers’ food stocks.
The elephant, seeking food, made its way into the village from Sial Bindha along the Swarnarekha river banks, breaking into homes with a force that left the community in fear.
Houses belonging to Ravi Bera, Manas Dandpath, Khuku Sahu, Alok Bera, and Bhutu Upadhyay bore the brunt of the elephant’s search for food, with essential food supplies like paddy, rice, and urad dal being destroyed.
The Forest Department has been quick to respond, with a team on-site in Guhiyapal village to assess the damage and provide necessary assistance to the affected families.
This incident has highlighted the challenges of human-wildlife conflict in the region, underscoring the need for effective measures to protect both the villagers and the wildlife that stray into human habitats in search of food.
