JMM-Congress MLAs on the Move to Avoid Poaching in Jharkhand

Amid Political Turmoil, Jharkhand’s MLAs Head for Safe Haven Outside State

In Jharkhand, the JMM-Congress coalition shifts MLAs to prevent potential poaching as political unrest follows Hemant Soren’s resignation.

RANCHI – The latest political developments in Jharkhand have led to the relocation of JMM-Congress MLAs, amidst concerns of potential poaching by the BJP.

According to sources, Governor CP Radhakrishnan’s taking time in inviting Champai Soren to form the government has triggered these moves.

The ruling coalition, despite having sufficient numbers to form a government, is taking no chances, given the political climate.

With 47 MLAs in the 81-member assembly, and external support from one MLA, the Grand Alliance is well-placed, but cautious.

Champai Soren, who has staked his claim to form the government, awaits confirmation from Raj Bhavan for his swearing-in.

The resignation and subsequent arrest of CM Hemant Soren by the ED in a land scam case have stirred up the political scenario in Jharkhand.

A special chartered plane, scheduled to arrive at Ranchi Airport by 10:30, is prepared to transport 35 MLAs, although some may remain in Ranchi.

This move to shift MLAs follows a similar strategy in 2022 when the coalition relocated its MLAs to Chhattisgarh during a political crisis.

The decision to avoid Hyderabad or Bengaluru as destinations was influenced by inclement weather conditions, with Bengal being the chosen location.

A senior Congress leader expressed concerns over a constitutional crisis and the possibility of President’s rule, citing the need to protect their MLAs.
