Jamshedpur Tops Jharkhand in Swachh Survekshan 2023

Jamshedpur’s Clean Sweep: 5th Cleanest City Title in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur secures the top spot in Swachh Survekshan 2023 for Jharkhand, marking its fifth consecutive victory as the cleanest city in the state.

JAMSHEDPUR – In an impressive feat of urban cleanliness, Jamshedpur has clinched the top spot in Swachh Survekshan 2023, marking its fifth consecutive win as the cleanest city in Jharkhand.

This achievement was celebrated in a grand event in New Delhi, graced by dignitaries like the Honorable President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

The city’s efforts, spearheaded by Tata Steel UISL and the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), have been recognized under the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission, conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Key factors contributing to this success include efficient door-to-door waste collection and processing, along with maintaining cleanliness in residential and commercial areas, and public toilets.

The cleanliness of water bodies and the city’s achievement of a 3 Star certificate under the Garbage Free Cities competition have also played a crucial role.

Innovative waste processing and disposal methods, such as the use of a compost plant, biogas production, and on-site composting, have transformed wet waste into valuable compost and biogas.

This year, Jamshedpur not only maintained its state leadership but also secured the 43rd position nationally in Swachh Survekshan 2023, scoring 7042.4 marks out of 9500.

The city has shown remarkable progress, finishing in the top 1% of its category, a significant leap from last year’s top 5% finish.

In the 2023 survey, Jamshedpur’s category, which previously included cities with populations between 1 and 10 lakhs, was merged with the 10 lakh plus population category.

Out of 4477 competitors in this expanded category, Jamshedpur’s 43rd rank is a testament to its sustained commitment to cleanliness and urban sanitation.
