Jamshedpur Launches Filaria Eradication Campaign

MDA Campaign in Jamshedpur Targets Filaria-Free Goal

Jamshedpur embarks on a Mass Drug Administration campaign, led by Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri, to eradicate filariasis. The initiative emphasizes community participation and awareness, targeting 85% of the district’s population.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a strategic move to combat filariasis, Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation in urban areas and sought the involvement of social organizations, civil society, and NGOs.

The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of consuming Albendazole under MDA, particularly for preventing malnutrition in children affected by stomach worms.

He stressed that even those who feel healthy should get tested and take medication, as filariasis symptoms often remain undetected for years.

Bhajantri appealed to the community to support the filariasis eradication drive, ensuring no eligible individual misses out on the medication.

He set an ambitious target of reaching 85% of the district’s population with the medication.

The drive involves various departments, including Health, Social Welfare, Education, and Information and Public Relations, to ensure comprehensive outreach.

In a comprehensive approach, Anganwadi Sevika and Sahiya from the Health Department will oversee the program.

Bhajantri emphasized the necessity of achieving 100% medication coverage among eligible individuals during the MDA.

The district reported 158 filariasis cases among over 4000 tested individuals, highlighting the urgency of the campaign.

The MDA meeting in Jamshedpur, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Bhajantri, marked the start of a district-wide campaign against filariasis, featuring medication booths and home visits for drug administration.
