JAMSHEDPUR – In Sakchi’s Kannelite Hotel auditorium, under the aegis of the District Public Relations Office, a workshop titled ‘Role of Media in Development-Oriented Work’ was held.
Journalists from various sectors, including print, electronic, and web/social media, participated alongside District Magistrate Manjunath Bhajantri.
The workshop focused on the media’s significant role in directing the government’s development work, including raising public awareness and voicing people’s needs.
Speakers, including Sanjeev Bhardwaj, Gulab Singh, Anni Amrita, Kavi Kumar, B. Srinivas, Satendra Kumar, Birendra Ojha, Rajesh Lal Das, and Anoop Sinha, shared insights on media’s impact through diverse news channels.
Suggestions were made to enhance transparency and comprehensiveness in district administration’s work.
Success stories in development were discussed, highlighting the media’s contribution to public awareness of government schemes.
Manjunath Bhajantri stressed the media’s importance in disseminating information about public welfare schemes and activities.
He proposed better coordination between journalists and administration, including a dedicated daily media slot for addressing administrative queries.
Bhajantri also suggested featuring district administration news in the Ghatshila newspaper edition, improving rural area information access.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by media in maintaining news authenticity, emphasizing the swift spread and verification issues of information.
The importance of freedom of expression and factual reporting was highlighted, with a call to senior journalists to mentor newcomers and encourage women in journalism.
