Hemant Soren Summoned Again by ED in Alleged Land Fraud
The Enforcement Directorate summons Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren for the seventh time in an ongoing land scam investigation.
RANCHI – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has received his seventh summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding an alleged land scam case.
The latest development involves the ED issuing a final notice to Soren, seeking his detailed statement in the investigation.
This case concerns the fraudulent purchase and sale of tribal land in the Bargai area of Kanke, Ranchi, using counterfeit documents.
Soren, who has responded to previous six summonses, has yet to personally appear before the agency.
His attempts to seek legal relief from the Supreme Court and the Jharkhand High Court have been unsuccessful.
The ED’s letter to Soren, which serves as a formal summons, allows him to select the time and place for recording his statement.
This flexibility is granted under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), with a response expected within two days.
Previously, the ED had summoned the chief minister to their Ranchi zonal office for questioning.
Soren’s repeated refusals to comply with the ED’s requests have included claims of political motivation and lack of clarity in the summonses.
His legal challenge to the summons in the Jharkhand high court was dismissed.
The new summons from the ED reportedly contains specific case details, expecting Soren to provide a comprehensive statement.
