Jharkhand High Court Issues Notice to Ex-CM Hemant Soren in SC-ST Case Against ED Officers

Former Chief Minister Directed to Respond to Notice; Next Hearing Scheduled After Summer Vacation

The Jharkhand High Court has issued a notice to former Chief Minister Hemant Soren in connection with a case registered against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, directing him to file his response in the matter.

RANCHI – In a recent development, the Jharkhand High Court has served a notice to former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, instructing him to submit his reply in a case pertaining to the registration of an FIR against ED officials under the SC-ST Act.

The notice was issued during a hearing on the ED’s petition, which sought the transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or another independent agency.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for this case after the High Court’s summer vacation.

During the proceedings, advocates Amit Kumar Das and Saurabh Kumar presented arguments on behalf of the ED.

Additionally, the court has extended the stay on the notice issued by the Ranchi Police under Section 41A against ED officers until the next hearing.

The case in question revolves around an FIR registered by the then Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, under the SC-ST Act against ED officials.

Consequently, the Ranchi Police had issued notices under Section 41A to both ED officers and media groups in connection with the case.

The High Court’s decision to issue a notice to Hemant Soren and seek his response marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle.

The former Chief Minister’s reply will likely play a crucial role in determining the future course of action in the case.

The extension of the stay on the notice against ED officers provides temporary relief to the agency as it awaits the next hearing and further proceedings in the matter.
