Tata Steel Tour Championship: Bhullar Triumphs with Record Earnings

Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar wins the Tata Steel PGTI Tour Championship in Jamshedpur, setting a new earnings record in a thrilling final round.

JAMSHEDPUR, December 24, 2023 – Gaganjeet Bhullar, India’s golfing star, emerged victorious at the Tata Steel PGTI’s season-ending Tour Championship in Jamshedpur.

Held at the Beldih and Golmuri Golf Courses, Bhullar clinched the title with a final round of six-under 66, winning by a solitary shot.

His total of 25-under 263 set a new record for the lowest winning total at the Tata Steel Tour Championship, surpassing his own record from 2020.

Rahil Gangjee, with a final round score of 67, finished as the runner-up at 24-under 264.

Angad Cheema from Chandigarh secured a commendable third place with 23-under 265.

The tournament witnessed a unique format where half the field played their first nine holes at Golmuri Golf Course and the second nine at Beldih Golf Course, and vice versa for the other half.

Bhullar’s consistent lead from the first round to the last was punctuated by an eagle and four birdies in the final round.

Om Prakash Chouhan of Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, claimed the prestigious No. 1 spot in the Tata Steel PGTI Ranking after finishing tied 10th at 15-under 273.

Chouhan’s record earnings of INR 1,18,26,059 for the season set a new high in PGTI history.

This achievement also earned him a card for the 2024 DP World Tour.

Aman Raj from Patna secured the second spot in the PGTI Ranking with earnings of INR 91,90,745.

The tournament also highlighted the performances of other golfers, including Yuvraj Singh Sandhu, who registered the day’s best score with a nine-under 63 to finish fourth.

Rookie Varun Chopra of the United States was named the PGTI Emerging Player of the Year, finishing 15th in the Order of Merit.

Chopra’s earnings of INR 33,15,577 were the highest among rookies this season.

The Tata Steel PGTI Tour Championship marked a significant conclusion to the PGTI season, showcasing the talents of Indian golfers and setting new benchmarks in the sport.
