Namaz Room Issue in Jharkhand Assembly Awaits Resolution
Jharkhand Assembly’s Namaz Room Issue Continues Without Committee Report
The Jharkhand Assembly’s issue over the allocation of a Namaz room remains unresolved, with the all-party committee yet to submit its report.
RANCHI – The all-party committee formed to address the differences surrounding the Namaz room in the Jharkhand Assembly has not submitted its report, as revealed in an affidavit by Deputy Secretary Naveen Kumar.
This committee was established on September 13, 2021, following a directive from the Speaker of the Assembly.
An affidavit concerning the presence of designated prayer spaces in other state assemblies was also filed in response to court instructions.
The committee’s formation was prompted by a Public Interest Litigation filed by Ajay Kumar Modi in the Jharkhand High Court, questioning the absence of a designated Namaz room in the Assembly.
The issue has caused considerable debate within the Assembly, leading to disruptions.
In compliance with the court’s orders, the Assembly stated in its affidavit that the seven-member all-party committee, led by JMM MLA Stephen Marandi, was tasked with resolving the issue.
Committee members include Pradeep Yadav, Neelkanth Singh Munda, Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed, ML MLA Vinod Singh, AJSU MLA Lambodar Mahato, and Deepika Pandey Singh.
The resolution of the Namaz room allocation, a topic of legal and public discourse, hinges on the committee’s forthcoming report.
