Dr. Debashish Bhattacharjee, VP at Tata Steel, receives the National Metallurgist Award 2022 for his role in developing sustainable technologies and materials.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Ministry of Steel has honored Dr. Debashish Bhattacharjee, Vice President (Technology and R&D) of Tata Steel, with the prestigious National Metallurgist Award 2022.

This accolade acknowledges his extensive work in sustainable technology development and advanced material innovation.

Dr. Bhattacharjee’s leadership in sustainable technologies has been pivotal in steering teams towards groundbreaking advancements in various materials including steels, composites, ceramics, and graphene.

His remarkable contributions encompass a wide range of areas such as mineral beneficiation, green hydrogen production, carbon capture techniques, and transforming steelmaking by-products into valuable commodities.

With over 50 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, more than 20 patents, and co-authorship of 5 books, Dr. Bhattacharjee has established a significant footprint in the industry.

His academic and industrial achievements reflect his dedication and expertise in metallurgy, positioning him as a key influencer in the field.

Tata Steel officials said that this award not only celebrates Dr. Bhattacharjee’s individual accomplishments but also highlights Tata Steel’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the steel industry.
