JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel Foundation has marked another milestone with the inauguration of its second Prasuti Pratikshalay, a birth waiting home, in Kuchai, Saraikela Kharsawan district, Jharkhand.
This follows the recent opening of the first Prasuti Pratikshalay in Dumaria on September 11, 2023, with a third one expected later this year.
The inauguration event saw the presence of dignitaries including Honourable Shri Dashrath Gagrai, MLA, Kharsawan; Shri Ravi Shankar Shukla, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Saraikela Kharsawan; Dr Ajay Kumar Sinha, Civil Surgeon and Chief Medical Officer; and Sourav Roy, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel Foundation.
Sourav Roy emphasized the importance of these birth waiting homes in enhancing institutional deliveries, especially in the remote areas of the Kolhan region.
The Prasuti Pratikshalay initiative is part of the MANSI+ program, targeting a 50% reduction in preventable deaths among mothers, neonates, infants, and under-5 children.
The facility in Kuchai will provide essential support to expectant mothers from remote locations, where public commute options are scarce and the terrain is challenging.
This new birth waiting home is set to benefit around 40,000 households in the Kuchai area, reflecting Tata Steel Foundation’s commitment to addressing healthcare challenges in tribal and remote regions of Jharkhand.
